This is important and needs to be talked about.

People are calling out for help, needing someone to help pull them out of the darkness. These people are suffering from depression and if it goes untreated it can lead them to suicide. Mental illnesses like depression are genetic. This means that they can run in the family. A lot of people suffering are actually teenagers. Every 100 minutes a teen takes their own life and that is only the ones that succeed. This statistic doesn't include those who attempt to but fail. Some people don't believe that suicide is something that needs to be talked about or that if teenagers hear about it will just give them ideas to do themselves. What those people might not know though is that suicide is the third leading causes of death for young people 15-24. With all of these deaths happening some people would assume that any kid with slight signs of depression are being put into therapy, but only 30% of teens with depression are actually being treated. Some people are starting to talk about it more to help educate people and let them know they can go to people for help. Shows like 13 Reasons Why and A Million Little Things are sparking these important conversations. If you are feeling suicidal you should get help, see a school counselor, adult, or someone you trust right away.

That was just some factual information. Just the facts without the opinion, now I am going to put my two cents in. I have suffered from depression and I have gotten some help for it. Recently I was diagnosed with "Depression and Gender Dysphoria in an Adult" by a psychiatrist. Lets brake this down. First yes I see a psychiatrist. I recently haven't been checking up like I have to. I see both a therapist and psychiatrist; I see my therapist to deal with my problems and have someone to talk to and I see my psychiatrist to see how I am dealing with my depression and discuss the option of anti-depressants and see if I need to go down that route. I really suggest every teenager sees a therapist especially if your insurance covers it. Mental health is a big issue and it is just now coming to light. This post is called Teenagers and Depression because that is what I know and what I have gone through. There is no age limit for depression and anyone can get it. Lets go to the second part my diagnosis. Depression is usually seen with gender dysphoria. I am trans and because of that I have gender dysphoria. Gender Dysphoria is basically the scientific diagnosis for being trans. According to American Psychiatric Association " Gender dysphoria involves a conflict between a person's physical or assigned gender and the gender with which he/she/they identify. People with gender dysphoria may be very uncomfortable with the gender they were assigned, sometimes described as being uncomfortable with their body (particularly developments during puberty) or being uncomfortable with the expected roles of their assigned gender.

People with gender dysphoria may often experience significant distress and/or problems functioning associated with this conflict between the way they feel and think of themselves (referred to as experienced or expressed gender) and their physical or assigned gender." Comment down bellow if you want me to do a whole video dedicated to explaining gender dysphoria.

Gender dysphoria is one of the causes of my depression, but not the only reason. I have had to learn to cope with it and to deal with it in a healthy way. Depression effects everyone differently. My adoptive mother gets depressed and is able to pull herself out and me and my sisters have a harder time. When it come to mental problems like depression if you have something look into learning ways to help your future kids or current kids because mental problems can be hereditary. Not all of them and they can skip generations, but the possibility is still there so just watch out. You can also look in other family members who have it and are dealing with it just like you are. Create a suport circle of people that you know will make you feel better. Also don't let others make you feel bad about yourself. Choose your battles and do what you need to be happy, but don't put your happiness above anyone else and don't put others above yours if they don't deserve it.
