You don't have to be on hormones to transition.

A little bit about how I am knowledgeable about this topic. If you have read or watched any of my videos before then you know I am transgender, MTF, I transitioned in June of 2018. I tried multiple times before to get on hormones and something always came up and I couldn't get on them. You can click the video up above or watch it on my YouTube channel and I will talk more about what came up. I planned on being on hormones before I transitioned publicly, but I also planned on being out and transitioned by the time I started my senior year. I was at a crossroad I could wait to start hormones to transition or to transition without hormones.
I choose to transition without hormones. Some people choose to transition without hormones whatsoever because they don't want to put it in their body or can't whether it is because of price, health reasons, or anything else. You don't have to transition with hormones it is not mandatory. Hormones do help you get the body you want whether it is testosterone to get a more masculine body or estrogen to get more of a feminine body. They also can be very dangerous if you self medicate and don't go through a doctor.
Tips and Tricks
Decide what hairstyle you want. Whether you are MTF or FTM one of the easier things you can do to pas is find a hairstyle. If you are FTM and you are in a place in your life where you able to cut your hair and you want it short then do it. If you are not out yet but live in a house where it is ok for girls to have short hair go for it. While it might technically be called a girl's hair cut it really is just a name. If you are MTF and want to grow out your hair starts as soon as you realize you are transgender. It takes a while to grow and even if you don't want to be on hormones you can be on hair, skin, and nails. You don't have to go on that if you don't want to. If you don't want to go on hormones for certain reasons you may not want to use hair, skin, and nails, but if you can't get on hormones at the moment hair, skin, and nails are easier to get.
When showing what gender you are clothes are really important. Clothes can clearly show what you identify as. When you are transgender a lot of expectations are one you. In some ways, FTMs have it easier because in some places it is normal for girls to wear boy clothes, but that can be a double edge sword. This can also cause transmen to be misgendered and can cause them unneeded suffering. When you transition especially if you do it without hormones you will get the line, "You are confusing people". It is common knowledge that some girls are masculine, not all girls wear makeup, some boys are feminine, and boys can wear makeup. This is seen as okay as some places, but most of the time it is only okay for cis people. When you are trans people expect you to be in their image, but you didn't transition for them you did it for yourself. At the end of the day people need to understand, transmen can be feminine and transwomen can be masculine. There are few differences in trans people and cis people and that isn't one of them. When it comes to buying clothes you want to go to thrift shops especially because it will be cheaper than buying a whole new wardrobe. Another thing you can do is buy a couple of outfits over a time period to help spread out the expenses. If you are planning to transition exactly one year from now then buy like 2 outfits every month. If you buy something you would wear that month and we split up the months of the year into seasons then you would have 3 spring months, 3 summer months, 3 fall months, and 3 winter months. That would be 6 spring, 6 summer, 6 fall, and 6 winter outfits and in total, you will have 24 outfits you can mitch and match. Not to mention that is only if you get 2 outfits per month. You will spend around the same amount of money this way, but you will spread out the amount you are taking from your paycheck.
At the end of the day, you are transitioning to make yourself happy and to deal with your gender dysphoria. Hormones change your body to best match the gender you identify. They don't always work in the way we think they will, but they do change your body. If you are transitioning without hormones it can be harder to pass. You really need to know your body. If you are MTF tucking and wearing makeup helps. Another thing you can do is wear a padded bra, stuffed bra, or bra with breast forms in them. If you are FTM you can bind and if you decide to go down this route do it correctly. Spend the extra money or look for places that give free binders near you. Binding can be dangerous to do so do it correctly. I am all about saving a penny, but don't mess around when it comes to binding. It can be very dangerous and risky if you do it the wrong way.
